Also, sorry to use your thread, but is it likely to autocross a stock automatic ex? Without abusing the car?

The 1st year ST (STS now) came out I autocrossed my 1993 Civic Ex. You just leave it in 2nd gear. I took PA State Championships in 1998 with my car

What mods were done to it? Is there anyway to practice on the road? (not on a busy street but a parkinglot or something of that sort)

Engine:
- Greddy Power Extreme Cat Back exhaust, Brospeed headers, Akimoto Funnel Ram II, Nology Wires, Beru Spark plugs, Castrol Syntec 5w-30, Redline Water Wetter, HondaSport Billet Aluminum Brake Cap, Billet Aluminum Oil Cap, Custom Air Ram
Suspension:
- Neuspeed Sport (1.5") Springs, Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks, LightSpeed Anti-Sway bars, Neuspeed Front Upper Strut Bar, KAM R Rear Upper Strut Bar
Wheels & Tires:
Touring Set-Up:
- Team Dynamic 'Qualifiers' 17x7.5" (44mm offset), Toyo FZ4 205/40x17" tires, racing valve stems and caps
Race Set-Up:
- Stock 14x5.5" wheels, Kumho V700 VictorRacers 205/55x14" tires
Exterior:
- Aero-Duo 4 piece body kit, Wings West Touring Wing, clear corners, Projector headlights, CATZ XLOs, clear brake lights 1/2 candied red, smoked window flares, color matched moldings
The basic stuff. You cannot just practice in a parking lot and if you do, you could be fined and jailed (street racing) PLUS you make it more difficult for your local region to host autocrosses and find more lots.
But as Sean said you can do test & tune days although I don't recommend it for a 1st timer. For a T&T you should have some basic knowledge of autocrossing and your car settings. A T&T is basically for people who haven't touched their car or did mods over the winter and need to get the car back on track. As a newbie you might be overwhelmed and hold up the line OR worse get lost on track and hold up the event.

What I was afraid of...what would I go to then?
Go to any autocross. There are plenty of people there that would be more than willing to help you. Unlike most drag racers, autocrossers are very helpful to anyone without a chip on their shoulders
I know I have helped plenty of people in the 8 years I've been doing this and plenty of people have helped me too.

just wanted to say i enjoy reading this thread and find it a nice break from all the harsh battles fought over ridiculous comments and questions on other forums and sites. everyone here seems generally enthusiastic and working towards the same goal: to gain a knowledge of and promote their sport or interest and to help anyone out, no matter how lame their question might seem, and with no regards to the person if they are a noobie or a season veteran. i have been inspired by the good feeling i get in this forum just by reading to give autocross a try. i am very excited. i am taking what i have learned from ya'lls tips and taking the car to the track to learn it, i have been driving my car for 6yrs, it only has 90k on it ls teg with minor boltons i/h/e, wires, strut and sway bars on their way, which will be added later after having drove the car a few times on track. i would greatly appreciate any help in finding sanctioned track events near my area and clues as to what kind of handling i should expect from my teg for the 1st time, i searched and am having trouble. i live in ocala, florida it is 40miles south of gainesville and north of orlando or tampa by 65-90 miles. i was hoping not to have to drive that far, but i will. sorry for the long post, but keep up the good vibes and i look forward to joining the sport

Here this should help:
http://www.scca.com/Inside/Index.asp...ence=436798&~=
Realize that in cases that regions/sites are a bit of a drive. The closest one I attend is 10 minutes from my house, but that is hosted by the Corvette Club and not affiliated with SCCA. My "home club" is about 30 minutes away. Then I attend other regions anywhere from 1-3 hour drive. It all depends on how much you want to feed your sickness for autocross
Also realize that you are not forced to stick with SCCA regions. NASA hosts NASA-X which uses different rules, local Corvette clubs may hold some in your area, as well as Porsche Club (and many other for that matter). Some are open to everyone, and some are only open to certain makes and models.
Another good site to try is: http://www.myautoevents.com
Oh yeah I also understand and thank you for your appreciation. Most of us here try to help one another. When I 1st started autocrossing there were alot of people there to help me out, so it's only my honor to help others to get started too. Autocrossing is such a different animal than drag racing. I remember doing a couple of drag events and everyone has this big CHIP on their shoulders. Plus you get like 10-14 seconds of track time, compared to 40-70+ seconds at an autocross. The lines at drag racing events are also long and tiresome. And then there is the commaraderie that is associated with autocrossing gurus. Many people going out of their way to make sure you understand the sport
