Default ITR vs M3 on the track

sometime in the near future i am going to sell the GSR and get either an E36 M3 or an ITR. i like them both a lot but i am concerned with preformance. which is a better track car. i know the ITR is great but the M3 is RWD and has more hp and torque. i have spoken with owners of each and done some additional research and it seems to me that the M is better, but maybe im missing something. thanks in advance for ur help

given equal driver i would give the edge to M3 but not by too much.

however if budget is an issue itr might be a better route.

M3 suspension parts (aftermarket) is pretty expensive.

M3 will be significantly faster on track, with the same driver.

240hp, 225hp and RWD will blow away a high strung 200hp and FWD. Its just faster. I blistered 2 front tires trying to keep up with one at CMP earlier this year.

M3 is faster. The margin is very dependent on the type of course (more straights=M3 more ahead, multiple tight curves=M3 ahead by less).

M3 is heavy...ITR will pull out of turns and enter turns better than the M3.

Long run M3 takes it.

No way. Torque + RWD will pull out of the hole alot harder than FWD and Torquesteer/Understeer. Thats probably the biggest place the M3 has an edge. Straightline speed once out of the corner, they're fairly equal and an ITR can make up time under braking and in high speed corners.

Its pretty interesting to see these differences first hand, on track between the two cars. Rather than bench racing or "i heard about... "

I would have to agree the ITR would go better into turns and exit better than a M3

i often go against e30, e36 M3s and ITRs at the track...of course i'm running 7lbs boost so i can stay with them...the M3s are pretty dominant coming out of corners when done correctly and its torque gets them moving pretty fast...but in the esses or carousel's the itr has a definite advantage with its lighter weight
