Default Cable Or DSL?

Hey we are looking into getting one of these within 2 weeks to replace the old 56k, and I was wondering which is faster, but pretty much which is the best overall. What do you use, and what are the pros/cons

thanks

I have cable.. my friend has DSL

The only problem I've had with my cable is..... none.

I only experience downtime when something is causing the wireless signal not to reach from the study to my room. But then I just hop on my mom's comp.

When I've used DSL at my friends house.. I've experienced major lag.... to not being able to connect at all. To... just disconnecting at random.

From my personal experience.. I say go with cable...
(But if the cable goes out... obvioulsy.. no internet)

Instal the cable wire? Or the cable modem and shit?

It can all pretty much be done by yourself.

DSL-you still have to dial-up but is faster than 56k, and you have to be a certain distance from the phone company, the further the slower the connection.

Cable-on all the time no dial-up needed, i believe a lot faster than DSL. you can get it anywhere the cable company offers it. downside is you share bandwidth with other customers but in my complex alot of people have cable but no noticable slow speeds, its pretty much at a constant speed.

with cable your computer would be exposed to hackers though but i havent had a problem yet, maybe because my router has a firewall but not sure, i'd get a firewall program for both DSL and cable to be safe.

well my bad, i was told it dial-up by a friend who had dsl, guess he meant like he had to connect all the time or something probably from bad service.
