I have DSL at my house, no real problems with it. Kinda slow (for dsl) but thats just because of my plan.

I've always heard that in really populated areas that DSL is better and in less populated areas (rural) that Cable is better...something about it being shared. :dunno:

In my towhouse we're going to have wireless cable, so I'll give a review next month.

They're both good.
I have DSL and have had absolutely no problems. You do have to connect, but it takes < 1sec. and you can set it up to do automatically when you open your browser. and cable is not "way faster" than DSL.
Cable companies are a pain in the ass to deal with. Especially if you need to get a cable jack installed in your room. :madfawk:

I had cable and i would lose conection at least twice a day for an hour or more. Their solution for the problem was to unplug the modem, which never worked.

After being very pissed off for a while i switched to dsl. I got the free upgrade to 1500kb down, and i only pay 29 a month which is less than cable was (45).

I have had no problem with the dsl, and i dont have to connect or anything it is just always on, so for me the dsl worked out better.

Just need a cable jack where the comp is.
I can understand not effing with splicing the cable wires... but the basic instal of the modem and stuff is beyond simple.

I have cable and sometimes it's smokin' fast and other times it's just decently fast. My friend has no complains about DSL either but not a lot of people in my area have DSL. Cable is installed free and the modem is free. They will run a line anywhere you want in the house for free.

You will probably have more bandwidth with cable.

DSL is rather expensive when you crank up the available bandwidth, and the hardware/intallation can be rather expensive sometimes (specially when going with SDSL).

The only advantage of DSL is that you will have a very steady latency when playing online games (SDSL - and in general compared to cable).

I have cable here, and it rox.

DSL doesn't "dialup". Some DSL providers make you authenticate first... but it's not dialing.

Cable is usually.... USUALLY better for speed / price.

BY FAR... the biggest factor when considering either. Where you are. Just giving a blanket question on which is better is a bad idea. It's like asking who has the worst cops in their area. Everyone is going to give you a diffrent answer and you will not get a straight answer, BEACUSE THERE IS NONE!

DSL and Cable differ greatly from area to area. Best bet is to compare, first what is avalaible to you. Then price, Then speed.

Does you no damn good if Adelphia offers cable modem for $40/month at 3.5mbit/128k if it's not in your area.

Location location location!! Is the name of the game here. DSL and cable, when under perfect lab conditions, both pumped up to the max... you won't see a diffrence between either one. They are practially the same.

It depends on your area.

Now... on to more specific info about each.

DSL is more of a dedicated connection.

Cable shares the bandwith for an area more.

Price. don't look at this first. Cheapest is not always better. It also goes right back to location. It's diffrent everywhere.

You get what you pay for. Ask around LOCALLY to people that have diffrent services. Hands down, the single best way to find out which is better for you is to try both.

I have 2 cable connections at 2 locations with Adelphia. I'm very happy with both. Uptime and speed is very good. BUT, I would prefer DSL. Adelphia blocks ports and limits what I can and cannot run. DSL is not avaliable at either location.

I also work for a DSL company doing DSL tech support. So I see this stuff all day everyday.
