Cable is usually.... USUALLY better for speed / price.

BY FAR... the biggest factor when considering either. Where you are. Just giving a blanket question on which is better is a bad idea. It's like asking who has the worst cops in their area. Everyone is going to give you a diffrent answer and you will not get a straight answer, BEACUSE THERE IS NONE!

DSL and Cable differ greatly from area to area. Best bet is to compare, first what is avalaible to you. Then price, Then speed.

Does you no damn good if Adelphia offers cable modem for $40/month at 3.5mbit/128k if it's not in your area.

Location location location!! Is the name of the game here. DSL and cable, when under perfect lab conditions, both pumped up to the max... you won't see a diffrence between either one. They are practially the same.

It depends on your area.

Now... on to more specific info about each.

DSL is more of a dedicated connection.

Cable shares the bandwith for an area more.

Price. don't look at this first. Cheapest is not always better. It also goes right back to location. It's diffrent everywhere.

You get what you pay for. Ask around LOCALLY to people that have diffrent services. Hands down, the single best way to find out which is better for you is to try both.

I have 2 cable connections at 2 locations with Adelphia. I'm very happy with both. Uptime and speed is very good. BUT, I would prefer DSL. Adelphia blocks ports and limits what I can and cannot run. DSL is not avaliable at either location.

I also work for a DSL company doing DSL tech support. So I see this stuff all day everyday.

:werd: best advice.

the sharing bandwith thing with cable is not a big problem. i live in a pretty crowded (northeast nj) area, and my cable is very fast.

cable can eat my cornhole. You share your bandwith with your neighbors as its allocated per city block, yet you pay a fixed price. It's not as secure because of that, also.

DSL > 56k > cable.
