I'd buy a honda as a winter beater, but what your doing is just plain stupid, go buy a SOHC Neon.

plus they suck in the winter, want a winter beater get a nissan, mine grips when i want it, spins when i want it.

Ummm.... Oddyseus, If it's AWD, no other Nissan, Honda or Dodge will touch it as a "winter beater". I ran around this past winter on bald NITTO NT555R drag radials with my 2g AWD on ice, and never had a traction problem that I didn't mean to (4-wheel burnouts on ice are great!). My ABS is broken, too. AWD can't be beat in the winter, and my cx hatch got stuck several times. Like any time I stopped. Any non-truck import is pretty easy to get high-centered in, though.

If it's FWD/turbo, then I agree... 175whp on ice is a pretty bad idea, and you won't have any problem "running into shit and totally destroying it". But you should be ashamed of yourself for doing that to something that's 4g63 powered.

If I bought a TSi AWD it wouldn't be a beater car for long.

$400 ?!?!?! Good deal!!! Let me know when you're done wrecking that thing. I might want the motor if the build date is before '92.5

i dunno, i have a problem.....i love cars to much, esspecially DSM's no matter that they'll usually see the flatbed more often than the road (most DSMers know what i mean). i tend to have a problem with people saying stuff like "its gonna be fun to run into shit and totally destroy, just as long as it gets me through the winter". as for AWD/FWD im obviously talkin FWD, usually people who have an AWD as a beater have an MR2, Vette, Porsche, or some other really nice car. i think the only real "beater" DSM is the 1.8, though there are some quick ones

there is that one exception where you take an old escort, strip it to the frame and run it through the woods
