School me on tablets o:
I basically have my pick of tablets for Christmas this year, but I need educated on what to select. I did some searching but it's hard for me to consolidate all the information.
I am not opposed to the iPad, but my reasons for wanting an Android tablet as mainly because I have purchased apps for my Incredible that I would like to use on the larger screen, rather than have to purchase new/comparable apps on a different platform.
My main reason for wanting a tablet is for work. I have several medical reference apps that have/can come in handy en route to a call/in the back of the truck, rather than have a stack paper guides/handouts and pocket guides laying around. I've also found apps that will let me document calls/patient info rather than writing it down, only to have to type up later. I have read of other medics that use their tablet for these same things.
I also want it for light document editing (from Google Docs) and for doing some other light "work" tasks.
I would not oppose to using it for media, but that is not its first priority. I have an iPod paired with my h/u in my truck.
I would also like to purchase some sort of cover/stand and a bluetooth keyboard with it.
So, what's the consensus?

Random notes from an iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy S Tablet, HP Touchpad, and Amazon Kindle Fire owner ...
+ An Android app may work on multiple Android devices, but might not be optimized for the resolution for the device.
+ Do some research to see which version of Android the device is running and can run. Many of these tabs are on custom versions that upgrading the OS isn't was simple as getting the latest release.
+ Something that you just can't get from hardware specs is the screen quality. This is what killed the original Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Zoom.
+ The Asus Transformer (32GB) is a good value at $400. Anything else is getting way too close in iPad to pricing. At $500, iPad 2 is the winner.
+ The most powerful Android Tablet is a CyanogenMod HP Touchpad. (Still in Alpha, WIP)

I've tried almost everything that was on the market in the last year, and iPad2 wins hands down. I think it is priced too high (like many other Apple products) but it's a well built piece of equipment.

I have a Xoom and have used the iPad and iPad 2.
I love my xoom. Everything awesome about Android. Although it is heavier and more expensive.
Only thing cool and unique about the iPad 2 is the smart cover.
Lenovo is coming out with a few tablets. Cheapest one is 199. That is what I would do now.

I feel bad because I suggested the galaxy S tab to my friend that was going to grab an ipad2...long story short his samsung is garbage. Locks up all the time, glitches out about 4 times per day etc.
I'd go ipad, especially if it's medically/work related. Most of the medical schools I'm applying to make you buy an ipad upon enrollment. Medical charts, lectures, it works, etc. Go with what works consistently.
