I just read an article about how they gave a bunch of people <$5 wine and >$50 wine and most of the time the people chose the cheaper wine, thinking it tasted the best and said it was the most expensive.

Prisoner is very good for under $40 bottle. it's a blend with base being cab sav. Heitz is also good and can be found for $20-30 and goes up from there.

2nd. but i can't tell the difference between $100 and $250. After about $100 they are all good. My favorite wine for more expensive wine is Opus One which can be had between $180-200.

I believe this was a university study.

1- $10 - $15 bottle of wine.

1- Same bottle of wine, dumped in to a $150 bottle.

given to wine snobs. it was overwhelming the bottle is mightier than the wine.

Yep, drink what you like.

Completely unrelated, but it made me chuckle. same type of study.

What I like to do is hit the sales, buy a big cab or zinfandel, with a higher alcohol content. I lay it on its side on the shelf in the closet, above my shirts, spin the bottle 180* every month for a couple years. You can get a fine bottle of wine for under $10. My local grocery store will have pretty good sales, particularly if you buy six bottles. I bet I have two dozen bottles of red wine in the closet in the guest bedroom right now.

Dad bought my wife some good red wine when he was taking us out to dinner the day before we got married. Prior to that, she was a beer drinker, Bud in a bottle. She will still drink beer on occasion, but first choice is wine now. She used to be a much cheaper date

I have a bit of a secret weapon on wine. My best friend Brett grew up in Napa and worked at Silverado CC there, and at more than one fine dining establishment in Northern California, as manager and wait staff. That boy knows wine; met him when we were both waiting tables at The Firehouse. Every Thursday they had a different wine vendor giving us samples. I learned a lot about wine in a short period of time, and he did the waiter bit a lot more than I ever did. We just drank an excellent V Sattui cab a few days ago that his sister had given him. Ate chocolate and drank red wine that had hints of rasberry and cherry, very not bad.

I don’t drink so I don't know much about brands.

Shafer One Point Five is fantastic and "only" like 70 a bottle. I prefer their hillside select but that is a different price game all together.

really? I didn't like Opus One. I mean I know it is a blend so it isn't supposed to be big like a full cab, but it seemed like it couldn't choose which way it wanted to go on my taste buds. My father really likes it just didn't blow me away like I thought it would :happysad:
