you say this as if being athiest is somehow wrong...like we're those silly misinformed fools that just don't get it. this reinforces how i said earlier that christians look down at other groups.

we aren't trying to take over anything. we're just tired of you trying to force us to take part in your beliefs against our will...whether it be prayer in school or reading the side of a soda can.

EDIT: by you...i mean christians as a group, not you personally.

you have a point, but i think she was just emphasizing the stupidity of some christians today. they really do think we're trying to take over the world.

most kids are too young to understand what is said in the pledge, and when they do, they can make their own decision. prayer shouldn't be allowed (unless its an indivdual or a group, just not put on the entire school body)

the major argument is that putting god in this stuff will give kids morals, but obviously thats not true.
No I think that the pledge of alliegence should be taken out of schools for one simple reason.

Not everyone in the country is christian by any means. What about Buddhists, Jews, Islamics, etc. who believe in a different god under a different name than the christian and catholics do?

It may appear to be a minor thing to most and many will laugh it off and say it is an irrelevant issue but in saying this phrase it compromises their religious standings and moral principals.

land of the free my ass we subject our kids at a young age to compromise their values by forcing this to be said.

good point, but i think its asking for too much. i really want "under god" out of the pledge all together b/c its completely hypocritical, but that will never happen.

my mom wants it out of schools b/c she wants to raise her children agnostic, and she's scared they're going to ask one day "who's god".

i on the other hand, know that it'll never happen, so fawk it. there are bigger things that i'd rather protest.

Nope that wasn't true when I went to school. I was raised as a Jehovahs Witness and refused to say the pledge of allegiance because it went against my religious teachings and ended up with more detention time for refusal than if I just mocked it.

Its a form of brainwashing...but then some people just accept things for the surface reasons given to them.

i just re-read your post...and i most certainly did misread it. i guess i was just looking for an argument there.

i am stereotyping christians by saying that i guess...but it was more a comment on what i see often. not really an attack on christianity as a whole.

this is what i was getting at. i didn't mean you personally...i did edit that previous to now, 99civic_love got it in her quote of my text, but you read it before i made the change. i added that because after reading it, i realized my post sounded like i was attacking you, and that was not the intent at all.
