You can't really messup your system unless the PSU messes up...
I'm still not sure what you meant about 2.8C, did you mean 2.8G (as in Ghz). The 2.6Ghz is only $40 cheaper and my logic behind the 2.8G was in a few of the benchmarks I was reading through, most of the time, the 2.8G 800 FSB was equal or a little quicker than the 3.06Ghz 533 FSB P4. Dumb reason, but I figured it would be more than enough machine without tinkering to handle anything I threw at it.

Besides, I think there 2 competing standards right now so I'll just wait and let them figure it out first and let the price drop. By the time I do decide to get one, they'll probably be around $100 and the media will be a lot cheaper.
you can get a burner that can burn on both types of standardized dvdr[w]'s

:werd: on the falling price though. give it another year or two and itll be cheap as fawk

btw...b4 you make any purchases...
i strongly advise you to take a visit to www.anandtech.com
you can find good info and deals on computer gears there..
You can get OEM units for around $150 but I'm trying to avoid OEM stuff, besides, I honestly don't think I'll use it that much, just a novelty and I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. I'll probably add one later when their cheaper and faster.

I though about getting the 875 but from what I've been reading, they found a way to unlock the PAT technology on the 675's and they're almost as fast, just $75 cheaper.

http://www.tomshardware.com/motherbo...603/index.html

I also don't know if spending the money on the 875 will be worth it with the P5 and AMD 64 bit chips coming out soon. I figured if I spend less now, I can more easily justify to myself upgrading in a year or two when the 64bit chips are out and the bugs are ironed out.

That 2.8Ghz P4 is HT enabled, as is the P4P800 board.

I think I remember reading that one of the big supporters of one of the standards gave up and swtiched (Sony maybe?) so it's going to be down to one soon. I think I'm going to hold off on the DVD-R for now, something to upgrade later too, like a second display and larger storage HD.

Suggestion:

Go for the AMD Athlon XP processors they are cheaper and better than the over rated Pentiums.

Get the Asus A7V8X-X motherboard, its got very good reviews and has a lot of potential.

I have that motherboard. Way better than the Gigabyte 8SQ800 I had right before it. But my CPU is a 3.06GHz 533FSB.

the 9800Pro is the best one available right now, but I'd wait for the 256MB one (I am).
