Need Help
UPDATE:
He is starting to make remarkable recovery. Although its still going to be a very very long road, he's doing really well. He has limited use of his tongue, but I got him to say "Goodbye Mark" to my dad. He is somewhat reading the news paper, he can't use his hands well yet. He's in a semi-child like state, and they think thats how it is going to be for the rest of his life. They are also quite worried about another piece of plaque coming loose, so he will remain in ICU for another month
I found out why the AF won't pay his bills. When you are retired, they pay your medical till age 65, He turned 66 this year. :madfawk: bastards. They can't make an exception??? Lulu is a wreck
my dad gave her $200 the other day to help her buy groceries, and pay some bills. She has no money at all. She was telling me the bill for the hospital alone was going to be over $100,000. The community is setting up a fund at a bank to help pay for his medical costs. I will forward you guys that information when I find it out.
Thank you all for your help!! This really means a lot !

Well that makes so sense at all. Why would they pay your medical bills till your age 65 when most likely after that is when you would begin to see the doctor more.

Because once you turn 65 and are retired, Medicare kicks in as primary. The link BigPimpin posted takes you to an information page about a program called Tricare for Life.
I happen to know a thing or two about Tricare since I work in the Medical Billing industry and regularly contact Tricare to verify patient benefits.
Tricare for Life is a supplement to Medicare that is only available to retired military personal. I would assume this person already has Medicare, as they could not have Tricare for Life as secondary. While Medicare Part A should be billed for all acute services rendered (hospital stay, nursing home, skilled nursing facility), Tricare for Life should come behind and pay the rest. I bill Medicare Part B, and Tricare has always covered the patient's Medicare annual deductible of $100 and the remaining 20% of what Medicare will not pay. I'm not that familiar with Part A though, so I would definitely read up on what Medicare and Tricare has to say about it. Also, if the patient is not Medicare eligible, they should still be able to collect under Tricare Prime.
Of course, the patient must enroll with Tricare. Like any other insurance company, backdated insurance claims will not be covered. I would check to see if this person has already enrolled.
Hope the information and the link provided help. Glad to hear he's on the road to recovery. Removing from sticky.
