and I didn't start this thread for people who don't like Rancid or punk music....notice several people here chimed in with their input on the band or the topic...I posted this thread for those people, the ones who like rancid. If 99% of the people around here don't like rancid, :gives: ...there is a portion of people who do, so thats why I posted it.

Yeah, its true. I read it somewhere on the internet. It is kinda unfortunate. But they didn't leave Epitaph, because Brett who owns it, also produced their album thats coming out in July. They sure as hell wouldn't leave Hell Cat, because thats Tim's label. If Rancid was gonna sell out, I think they would have done it years and years ago. I'll admit I said AFI sold out because they went to a bigger label. Thats not really the truth, they just got too big for Nitro. I'm not positive on this, but maybe Rancid got too big for Epitaph. I know Thrice's new album is coming out on Island, I think they got too big for Sub City Records and so on. Thursday's is coming out on Islands too, only because Victory didn't do much to advertise them and stuff.

I know after "and out come the wolves" came out, everyone and their mother was trying to get them to sign to their label, but they stuck with epitaph...if they were going to sell out, it would have been then. It must have just been that they got to big for the label as you said. Hellcat is a part of Epitaph, so they're probably still on good terms. Bad Religion left Epitaph back in '93 even though Mr. Brett owned the label and was still in the band at that point for that exact reason.

No to me punk is rich kid trying to rebell against mommy and daddy moneybags by dressing like a jackass. I should know, my own girlfriend could be considered punk but when she is around me I make her dress like a normal person. But she will come see me with plaid pants with chains and strap shit all over and hoodies held together with patches. And her friends with funny mohawks and shit. While they all roll up in her '03 Benz in a rebellious manner but then again her parents are idiots and should die.

oh yes that's right kinda like when metallica released the black album. that mentality is dumb.

what i don't like is how bands soften their sound when they have commercial success.

ie: sugar ray (they suck anyways), everclear, creed (the 3rd album is better though), and staind (although the music is still good)

if i had made a stupid comment or asked a dumb question i could see some validity to your comment. i think a tool is someone who calls people a tool for no legitimate reason.
