Default Jeep Cherokee Starting Issues

I know alot of you guys have or know about Jeeps so I have a question.

2001 Jeep Cherokee I6. Starting when cold results in cranking for a good 5 seconds. There seems to be no difference when cold starting if I pump the gas or let the car prime a few times.

Warm starting isnt much better, maybe starts in 3-5 seconds.

Im trying to look where to start with this issue. I was trying to replace the fuel filter until I found out its all contained in the fuel pump as 1 unit :wtc:

Fuel
spark
air

The only three things that an engine used to need :chuckles:

Is the starter turning slow or is it turning normal speed and just not firing?

Did you gap your plugs or just toss them in?
Check all the wires and connections you changed?

Plugs were gapped. After i changed the plugs and wires the jeep ran fine for 3 months. Recently this started happening.

Check all wires to the starter. There is a single small one that leads to...uhh something (I forget right now) that if it comes loose can play hell with you.

Is this consistent or intermittent at all?

I would be checking the plug wires for consistent spark as well, it happens sometimes that one will go bad. I would also pull the plugs and check the ends for carbon build up or oil etc. while there I would get a leakdown compression check as well. Simple to do and since you are in the neighborhood and all that.

Hearing your responses so far are you thinking its a spark issue?

I can pull the plugs and check to make sure everything is good with the wires to the starter.
