I like the STI. The fit and finish looks so much better and also it had 2 limited slip differentials

Regardless of where it is made it still has inherent design flaws and a car should be under the same scrutiny regardless of where it is made at. That is quality control and if it is that inconsistent then its that much more reason not to get it.

What inherent flaws? Most of the cars Mitsu sell here aren't even available ovesea. They have a complete different lineup.

their formula for a performance tranny that breaks as often as i change my oil.........almost all the performance mitsus, vr4, eclipse, lancers, have weak trannies.....not all break, but they are a very weak link

Weak tranny? You should do some research on EVO. The 5 speed tranny in EVO 8 is known to be bulletproof and can handle even greater power. WRX (USDM) on the other hand is known with a weak weak tranny. You should see the difference between that unit and the STI's.

I realize its a different lineup but if you look at theor track reord you will see a consistent series of issues with their cars. Trannies as fizzbob said break more often than anything else but then there is also the engines tha consistenly last well under the 150k mark before being rebuilt or tossed out completely. Structural integrity of the cars on the whole is weak with body lean being some of the worst I have ever seen consistently. Suspension...don't get me started on that one at all cuz it just falls apart after a relativley short period of time unless upgraded.

Now I realie some of these issues are with specific cars and models but it shows a lack of consistent quality control as I said before....BECAUSE REGARDLESS OF WHERE IT IS MADE QUALITY CONTROL MUST BE CONSISTENT....and Mitsi just doesn't have it.

the evo 8 hasn't been around long enough to know exactly....the gsx wasn't supposed to be as weak as it was either, but they are ridiculously weak......and the vr4s are the same way.....maybe the evo8 will be as advertised, but so far, mitsu has had the same basic problem.....trannies and even worse, trannies on awd cars.....that's from what i've seen over the past decade, not from a mag.....i'd still take an evo8 though...i like them, but i'd rather have a evo7....love their look

the evo is ugly as shit and plus its running i believe 18 lbs of boost whereas the sti is 14 or 16, so that has to tell you something about the future reliability and how mitsu tunes their cars. a kid from my area just got an evo8(1st one of the east coast)

I'm not a big fan of Mitsu either, at least their domestic products. But EVO is really different. Everything about its performance is proven. All the weak points mentioned in their past product is non-issue. Its engine, chassis, tranny, suspension, brakes, etc everything are first class. You say EVO 8 hasn't been long enough to know exactly? Well that's not entire true because our USDM version is basicly a EVO 7 with different bodykit and w/o the differential stuff. Our tranny is the exact 5spd unit used in EVO 7.
