Not quite Brain...

an 18-200 is going to be a slow lens especially at full zoom, probably in the range of 4.0-8.6 is my guess (not looking it up) so the P+S would actuallyt have a distinct advantage over this setup in speed and most likely in sharpness as well.

Don't discredit the P+S I have seen some truly amazing work from them, hell I shot on one for my first year of magazine work and still got published on the regular.

Ever try to shoot a whale watching trip? Yeah...good luck switching to the 18-55 when all the sudden a whale/dolphin/etc pop up in front of the boat 10 feet from the bow...:slap: With the 18-200...oh look I can just zoom to 18 and I can get the whole whale and not a small portion of it.
thats why i have 2 bodies oh and i can switch from lens to lens in 3 sec flat

I also want to mention that I shot for a few years in probably the harshest conditions of most anyone on here...rain, dust, rocks, light etc. all exposed to elements and bouncing across the rocks in a crawler for 12 hours or more a day with nothing to do cleanings with.

Sensor dust happens and is easy to PS out of the shot, clean lens rag is your friend...in fact I carry a dozen or so every time I leave with my camera, lens changes are quick and easy, like Vinnie said about 3 seconds if you plan it right and this minimizes and nearly eliminates any dust issues.

I have cleaned my sensor every time I come home from a shoot because the conditions are just that bad when I shoot, but it is far from debilitating in any way.

I'm not discrediting a P&S. Just stating that there ARE benefits to have a larger range for a basic lens. I know there are compromises to getting an 18-200 (like the fact that I heard closer to the 18mm you get a very faint fisheye effect.) Also, my current 55-200 is 4-5.6. The 18-200 is 3.5-5.6, so relatively the same speeds as my current 18-50 (3.5-5.6), 55-200 (4-5.6).

Check out the Ken Rockwell review on it:http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18200.htm Yeah yeah...there are people the like and dislike Rockwell, but I find his reviews to be quite nice.

Some of the shots we got on our honeymoon trip through our Canon d10 were amazing...also the underwater aspect of the camera helped a lot as well.
