What kind of car? Does it have US VINs? If it has VINs you can register it unless it's been branded by DMV as nonfixable.

It doesnt have US VINs. The plate off of the inside door panel, usually where US cars have a sticker, is blue and metal. Half is in Japanese and half is in English. The lady that I talked to at the DMV had no clue what was going on.

Imported leagally...thats a good question. I had assumed so since its done through a distributor. But then again they could be shitty, and hence another reason they're willing to sell for cheap. I thought dealers and distributors had to do some paperwork shit for all cars brought in. hum...

Is this the guy from craigslist who is selling skylines and other JDM cars from Long Beach/Torrance area?
To be honest I would not waste time with it. You can register it as kit car but it will cost you some money.

This is the guy? WWW.PEREZWHOLESALEDISTRIBUTOR.COM

He imports them illegaly. I don't believe you can import complete cars from Japan in mass quantity unless you are MOTOREX. You need to have EPA and DOT approval.

Just because it is through a dealer means nothing as far as legality for street registration. A vehicle can be brought in as an off highway use only vehicle or race vehicle only. This means the vehicle although here legally has been made a "green sticker" only and not eligible for street use any longer. People do this with special interest vehicles like Skylines and other relative exotics. It's a lot cheaper than going through the upgrade requirements from DOT to make them street legal and you still get to enjoy them on the weekends.

Isn't that where IKT's headaches began for 4 years fighting for his R32?

No, its not that site. I have heard of Motorex before, but that gets pricey, at least more than Im willing to shell out. Thanks for the info on how people can get special interest cars over here and want to sell them so cheap. Ive seen places that say for track use and part outs only, just never could see how they could get away with it. Guess the saying is right that must be too good to be true.

I just checked that link to perezwholesaledistributor.com. The cars look nice, but shit selling cheap has to be a scam. It would seem nice to get a RX-7 or a skyline for 7-10 grand, but then you would either: A-never get to dive it on the street, or B-spend way too much to get street legal, and defeat your porpose anyways.
