Nirvana sucks
he made music a lot of people liked. doesn't matter if he could barely play or not. Ramones could barely play. Sid Vicious could barely play. they all made shit people liked. fucking dream theater can play. nirvana probably sold more albums then Dream Theater in the 90's.
I've never been a huge fan of Nirvana, but if they are to be commended, it is for the death of the otherwise putrid hairmetal/buttrock bands that were crowding the airwaves of the preceding decade.

So you just compared almost the same thing.
This I can agree with, buttrock was a terrible time for music.
You are entitled to your own opinion.
I, on the contrary, think Nirvana is a great band (their unplugged performance has to be one of the best performances of all time) and Foo Fighters is dog shit.

In all honesty, I don't think Cobain intended for his music to be pretentious either. He saw a chance to have people hear a different sound which he then explored. It became a thing of its own from there. The scene and movement became more than he intended. It's probably ultimately why he ended his life.
