i used to be in the "cant drive beat up" crew

now im like fuck it, theres so many more things i'd rather spend my money on than a vehicle that gets me from home to work and back and around town. i have paint chippin and dings and dents and i just dont care anymore. i mean i do but i tell myself it's just a car

I'm leaning towards the Xterra option. I'm with Jay on the driving it, I know I would feel self-conscious driving it around everyday with the hail damage, even if it would be the financially sensible thing to do. My 4Runner actually got tagged pretty good as well, but it's kind of a beater and I don't really mind the dings.
Nothing wrong with the XTerra. They are awesome off-road. My mom's 04 (I think it's an o4), goes off-road stock and climbs very well.

Have yet to take the fiances out for a true off-road climbing adventure, but I like the Xterra's a lot.

RB is the winner, drive it as is, pocket the rest and save up for a nice ride when you accumulate enough funds.

Seriously though.. I wouldn't be able to daily drive it all beat up. Having a dirty car is hard enough for me to deal with. one two or three dings is fine, but completely dinged up would irk me. As for the Xterra - It's a nice truckish SUV. Not big by any stretch and rides more true to truck form than it does a car.
I think hail damage like this is probably way beyond PDR if they gave him an estimate of over 9 grand.

this man speaks the truof!

Now you have a hoopty for a DD. Take about 20 bucks from that cash and buy a rubber mallet or the Ding King.
Take out what you can on your own ( of course this is without us seeing the damage )

9k worth of damage is A LOT. Was it bowling ball sized hail?

Yeah, the hail was coming at an angle from the passenger side. They said they could do PDR on the driver's side door & front & rear fenders because it wasn't as bad on that side, but they would have to replace all the body panels on the passenger side and the hood, roof, and hatch.

The hail was probably pea to marble sized, but it was coming down with force and for a good 40 minutes. Each dimple on my car is almost nothing by itself, similar to a door ding, but there are literally hundreds on each body panel.
