Taxes. I'm confused.
There is a minimum level at which tax payers get all their money back that they paid in taxes (for those who have taxes paid out every check, aka filling out a W-4). For someone that uses a 1099 (contractor type work), I'm sure the same rule applies.
I'm a little wary of the "as far as they know" part. Sounds like something shady is going on. For being such a fastidious conservative, I would expect more from BetterBob.

"No taxation without representation" started when Colonists in the New World were taxed on imports and exports, but had no representation in British Parliament. It's not like they had representation that they didn't agree with.
Regardless of personal political belief, tax dollars still go towards roads, schools, police, public infrastructure, etc. You may not agree with the direction of said representation, but that doesn't give you the right to not pay your taxes.

As much as i would like to argue this issue, I need to know what is going on.
I know i don't have to pay the fed. But what about Social Security and such?
I'm going to call the IRS monday, on work time, of course.

you have to file a schedule SE (self employment) and pay taxes that way, via a self employment tax:

here's instructions and info about schedule SE: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040sse.pdf

You will owe Social Security and Medicare...about 15.3% of your income. Since you aren't an employee, but a contractor you are responsible for both halves of your SS/medicare, normally an employer pays half or 7.15%, it may be a little different number but that's what it was a while ago.
