In the last few months, I've noticed more and more places are asking to you to contribute a dollar or round up to the nearest dollar when you make a purchase in the name of X charity.

It seems like it's everywhere now! They make you feel like an asshole if you say no!

Grrr.

safeway is a big one, but yeah i've noticed it more at other places like that too.

 

so the little plastic box where people put their change in isn't working?

 

I doubt it. They kind of blindside you by asking if you want to donate and round up to the nearest dollar or add a dollar to your bill. Then you feel guilty for not donating when you say no.

 

Yup. Vons grocery store started doing that too. First it was breast cancer, now prostate cancer. The card machine makes you check yes or no to donate as well. Last week they had a sign about giving you a 2 liter bottle of coke if the checker didn't ask you if you'd like to donate.

 

I donate if Im getting less than a buck in change. I have enough coins in my collection. h:

 

for about the last 3 months the local safeway has been doing that. when you donate they make an announcement over the PA system. I've yet to donate anything yet. even the announcements get annoying. on one trip to safeway there must have been 30+ donation in a 30min period.

 

i don't feel guilty if i don't give them a dollar.
