But i think the warranty has changed on the devices. You may want to double check that.
I'm just looking for an external case. Nothing fancy, but nothing junk. I'm already happy with my WD 3.5" mybook.

I'd just like to use this 120 to cart apps. etc.

I wanna use the 120 as an external. There are TONS of cheap ass cases around. I'm seeing from $5.99 shipped on ebay o:, to $25 on overstock.
The brands I've never heard of. Can someone steer me towards a good one? If you guys have one laying around, I'll paypal you.
Cases are tough. I would recommend looking on Newegg at the different reviews.
I have had experience with 2 different notebook external cases. One was 20 bucks and fried and the other was 3 bucks and works well. Look at different reviews and see what people say.

Welp 6 months later my external WD My Passport Essential crapped out.

Partition drive is corrupted and it seems there's nothing I can do to fix it. I only have about 40 gigs on it but some of the movies/pictures I have nowhere else.

If I format it I will lose everything. If I use my warranty and send it in, I lose everything.

that happened to my last external HDD. I "found" a data recovery program and recovered 98% of my stuff.

Run a diskcheck on it. Most will block out corrupt sectors so you can atleast get some of your data off it.
