and that's why i surprised that you can actually go back to the store and get money! i mean if I knew someone getting married with a registry i would probably try to find the things the couple can remember me by. It's a little dumb that if i buy it they can turn around bypass my opinion (that giving cash sucks) and just go and get the cash anywais...

i dont think one person pays for the full set... 3-4 people can contribute to the same gift.

my friend is getting married (this week actually.. in the bahamas .. i can't afford to go) ... and me and gf went to check out the gift registry.. she thought everything on there was ass-ugly... so we decided to get them something they will remember us by ... not some random hand-towels.

my cousin and her husband are really young (21) and don't really have anything like kitchen stuff or towels, so their wedding registry is loaded with that stuff, but they can actually use it for their house. well, her's.. he's in the navy and lives in hawaii

not really the point. you can get ALOT of shit for 1k and get a "good" knife set for 1/4 of that.

true.. our friends have been together for like 9 years, living together for 5 and in a house (her parents house that she 'inherited') for 2. So they don't need "essential" things like towels or forks.

We were looking into that. There are some awesome pluses though.

If I were to sponsor a snorkeling trip for someone goign to Australia, I would love to have a picture of them enjoying the snorkeling trip knowing that I helped them get that, rather than a waffle maker that would probably either get used once or returned. There can be more meaning behind the honeymoon registry. My gripe with them is they cost like $75 to set up.

I always joked that we were going to register at Chase Bank, but THAT is tacky as all hell.
