back from the phillipines
and i must say....it sucked balls.
the training moreso than anything. two weeks in the field doing absolutely nothing. the first week was hot as balls and the second we got rained on everyday. the entire time we just sat there with our thumbs up our asses. everyone in the platoon did manage to buy a hammock from the local vendors and set them up between our vehicles. so at least we didnt have to sleep on the ground.
we got four days off after that in subic bay. the stories i heard about phillipines being better than thailand were false. maybe if we were allowed to go to manilla things would have been different. :hsdunno: we were restricted to a 5 kilometer area around our ship.
there werent many pictures worth taking. the only ones i have are a few of us doing things with the phillipine marines. i'll get those up sometime. i was drunk off my ass most of the time anyway so i wouldnt have gotten any good pics.

Lolli lolli...I can't believe they allow you to drink so much. The Air Force likes to mother-hen it's people to death. If you even mention drinking, the higher-ups automatically brand you an alcoholic.
the locals were very nice i must say. during our time in the field they were allowed to setup food and souvenir stands a couple hundred meters from our camp. i fell in love with lumpia and pancit and we were allowed to drink two beers a night. :yumyum: and python tastes pretty good. :hsdunno:
and i met a cute girl working there im keeping in touch with. :rick:

afghanistan's pretty much a sure thing for my next deployment late next year. if i dont get to go im gonna be pissed. :squint:
we're marine infantry. take away our sleep and alcohol and you have a group of upset individuals with lots of guns.
we do two things very well, fight and drink. it's part of the culture even though the liberal higher ups dont like to admit it.
the drinking got canked a couple days towards the end because some dumbass decided to get drunk then stand a post where he had to watch over sleeping marines and their gear. :slap:

Same here. I've been to Taipei and Beijing recently. GF asks when we're going to visit a country of my origin ... And I refuse every time. Manila is where the action is ... But there's way too much poverty and crime against travelers to make this a desirable destination.
