No word at all. I do know a guy from another board who lives in that town went ad filed a complaint with the PD but they treated it less than seriously.

Multiple letters and emails have also been sent to the city council regarding this blatant crime, but no word back on that either.

Just called and talked to him on the phone.

Very civil convo and the basics are:

The cemetery is publicly owned, the plots are privately owned.
Because of this the placing of the flags by family members is acceptable and would then have resulted in him being found in violation of the desecration of a grave. Since the confederate flags were placed there by an organization and not by the family this law does not come into play.

We discussed the aspects of dying under the flag and the right to fly it in that context which he agreed with, but since the organization took it upon themselves to place those flags there it was the equivelant of littering and he removed them.

Can't say I agree with him 100% but I do see his reasoning a bit clearer. The photo op was definitely a poor choice and even he admitted that.

Isn't it only littering if the property owner doesn't want it there? If someone puts a campaign sign in my yard it's because I want it there. I didn't put it there though but that doesn't mean any Joe off the street can come and remove it from my property just because I personally didn't put it there.

It's up to the "property owner" or their family to determine if it remains or not.

yup and considering that the great-grand daughter of one of the desecrated grave sites was a member of the organization that placed the flags ... it kinda removes the the argument that someone else placed the flags. by her association she condones and approves the placement of the flags if you ask me

the guy is full of shit, regardless what he happened to tell you. now he's just trying to cover his ass

I agree.

His contention with that argument was that it is a combination fed/state operated graveyard so it was up to the state/fed to take action on anything deemed inappropriate/litter/damaging etc. to the site.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying that the confederate flag is a symbol of oppression, about as much as a nazi flag, and it has no place in today's society.

if they put a black man up for trial for taking away confederate flags, the us population doesnt know enough about the civil war. al sharpton would be all voer it. and then the city would look like assholes. its just how it is guys.

minor threat might had said it best, we are guilty of being white.

to you it does. but to these people it didn't. it was about a unified south that didnt have to follows the rules of the overpopulated north who forced legislation on them like england did to the colonies.

in the united states that flag has every right to be here

freedom of speech is key ... if i want to say fuck black people thats my right. noone can take that away from me so long as i dont preach in a way that incites violence or causes direct harm

i'm not saying thats my position and i'm not saying i agree with the foundation that the confederacy was formed on but i do believe it's their right to say and display how they feel

thats why i love this country

i strongly dislike those who consider me an 'infidel' but at the same time so long as they are willing to let me live my life i'm willing to let them live theirs

if they want to fly a confederate flag so be it, its not my place your place or this guys place to make that decision for anyone

and if you dont like that then you can GTFO!

America, fuck yea
