Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko is another who put it the same but a little more eloquently.

I agree with this. Oddly enough, it's the best way to be. You're tickled by integrity

1. When people need help, it's easier to distinguish between those giving reasons and those giving excuses.
2. You no wan no prolem, so you cause no prolem.
3. You teach a man how to fish instead of giving him one. And enjoy the look in his eye when he catches one.
4. Older generations of people feel the peaceful soul you have and like to talk to yah

Social survival.

The difference between this recession and the great depression is that we still have running water, cable TV, XBOX and high-speed internet and cell phones.

By companies increasing our need on certain things we've depreciated basic human needs. We've built the wall up so high that the core values of Americans have been focused on building a ladder to get over to the other side. We schedule our kids to death just so they have a chance to 'make it' we've done sucked hte human right out of ourselves. Emotions, hunger and sleep have all turned into problematic things that we need a cure for. wtf mate

Values don't need to be wholesome to be communal.
Nor do they need to be conscious decisions.

In my opinion the values I listed play a role in our lack of progress as a society.

What we broadly classify as greed stems from vanity, self-obsession and the desire to be envied. Materialism and conspicuous consumption have become the modern-day balm for all sorts of spiritual and physical self-neglect.

But it never truly fixes the problem. Such a culture only produces intellectually stunted drones: insular, emotionally insecure people with little interest in morality and hence, no understanding of how to trust one another.
