Default PS3 crew:need help with getting wifi to work

I just picked up a ps3 this weekend and its pretty freakin sweet.

I went into the network settings and did the network setup to setup a wireless connection but my ps3 can't pickup any connections and can't see any SSIDs. My laptop works just fine with the connection I'm using and I even took out my psp and that picks up mutiple access points with varying encryption from none to WEP etc.
I even pulled up all the info on my psp with the connect it was using and manually put in all the info into the ps3. that didn't work at all and the ps3 can't get an IP address.
I had a friend suggest to get a thumb drive and upgrade to the newest firmware and that could solve the issue.
any of you guys have any suggestions?

They all have Wifi Spanks.

That's weird, I usually just go to automatically search for a connection and it finds it.

What kind of router? I was having connection issues with my PS3 until I upgraded the firmware on my Linksys router.

exactly, I would have thought it would bring up the 6-8 connections I have around my condo complex.

well its not really my router so I don't have access to upgrade it. I don't understand how the ps3 can't recognize any connection at all but yet my psp does and sees all of the same connections that my laptop does.

If you can't hard-wire it, then the easiest solution is to bridge your wireless connection to your ethernet port with sharing then plug ethernet f/ laptop to the PS3, run your update, then try again. It SHOULD work...i've done it before in a similar situation. Basically you use the laptop as a wireless bridge.

I didn't check what the firware the ps3 comes with but it came with the rumble controler so you'd figure it would have a somewhat upgraded firmware version. I'm going to get my thumbdrive and get the upgrade on my laptop and install it that way. hopefully that will work.

aside from the wireless portion not working right now the system is bad ass! I got motor storm used and its a beautiful looking game. GTA4 looks pretty sweet too. The game I'm really looking forward to is the Ghostbusters game, that is a must have.
