Default Routerz Crew

I need some help. Yesterday i received my Dell Mini (which is pretty cool on the crapper) and i had a hard time connecting it to my Netgear router using WPA. So i said screw it, i'll just change my settings to MAC address specific with no SSID broadcasting and a WEP key. Figured that'll be good enough until i can get a Linksys router when Jasmine moves in.

So i changed it to that and all was well. All the laptops connected to it and life was good. Well now it seems, whenever a laptop hibernates, get's turned off or basically loses connection to the router it seems, it does not reconnect. In order for me to connect to it again i have to unplug the router and plug it back in. I checked and i have the latest firmware for it. The laptops never had this problem when i used WEP before. I just recently upgraded to WPA and they had no problem with that as well.

At first i thought it was just my Mini, but my Thinkpad and Jas's HP both have a problem reconnecting after sleeping or hibernating.

Any ideas?

I might try removing the MAC specific list and run with that and see what happens.

have you tried turning off and back on the onboard wireless instead of rebooting the router? alot of computers i deal with have trouble with certian harware after sleep/hybernate. my ATT pc card does the same thing on my 700m.

also, what SP is on the mini? wpa2 is only supported by xp sp3 and vista which could explain why it wouldn't work using that setting...

It's XP Home SP3 on the mini. Vista Business on my Thinkpad and Vista Home on Jas's laptop.

Well i tried something similar to that on the Mini. I basically just did a repair and still the same thing. Also, i'm not sure if this is it. But i also changed my router and all the other devices to Shared instead of Open WEP settings. For some reason, Jasmines laptop doesn't like it when the router is set to Automatic and all the devices are set to open. I'm beginning to wonder if that is the reason i'm having this problem.

Try using static IP's on the machines sometimes that works.... I used to have problems with WPA on a Netgear btw

Additional info: Do you have the Intel card or do you have the dell card, and are you using windows to manage the settings?

I'm going to venture to guess it's a broadcom network card that is in the Mini. I was using the broadcom software first since that came with the mini. I removed that when i realized it was crappy and used the windows one and still the same problems. It's weird because i know my laptop works with WPA because i tried connecting to someone near me who had WPA encryption as well and i could actually attempt to connect to it. But when i tried connecting to my router it kept saying waiting for network.

try setting your router up on a random channel like 8 or something thats not normally a default (I think 1, 9 and 6 are?)

you might also want to try using a short preamble

I'd still try to change it again and might as well set your computers to static IP's
