Nice, man. Home ownership FTW! It's nice when you can change things to however you want them (unless you and your wife disagree on how something should be done.) I like the wall color in the last pic and almost used about the same color in one of our rooms but the wife didn't like it so it was a no-go. :wtc:

Nice Rob! For the wood paneling, just score it along the bookshelf and snap it off. You can re-texture the wall and just add a similar color quarter round moulding along the back edge of the bookshelf to hide the paneling.

I would definitely just remove it. Don't bother wasting your time texturing it.

BTW, another project of mine is to possible reface the chimmney. Your's would be so easy (mines goes all the way up to the ceiling) They have pre-fabbed mantles to cover your existing one. Then you can apply a granite or slate rock facade over the existing red brick. It would look great and cheap and easy to do!

It seems that Jay knows his home improvement stuff.

I'd listen to whatever he suggests. :hsugh:

Nah.. I guess it's like modding cars. I stopped buying rims and bought granite slab counters instead.

I love re-habbing and renovating. I've got a few projects I need to take care of, but 2009 is a long year.

Only issue with mounting the tv above the fireplace is running cables. You're going to likely hit the chimney stack and you definitley dont wanna do that. You can keep it a corner mount using a double articulating mount like the one I picked up . Just mount it on the wall with the window and you can manuever it to sit angled in that corner with everything hidden.

We need an official home diy thread.

If anybody is doing any tile work this is the best site bar none.

Anyone have any other forums they use for diy home stuff?

Heres one for plumbing: http://www.terrylove.com/forums/

On second thought, just remove that bookshelf. It really takes away from the focal point of the room (the fireplace)

you should replace it with something taller or shorter, but not the same height as the fireplace.

Also, fyi, i purchased the faux-wood plantation shutter style blinds online for a LOT less than local prices. Installtion is straight forward. Its a great alternative to curtains if you're looking for window treatments in the bedrooms

I eventually want to do some upgrading in my house like swapping out the vinyl flooring in the kitchen for tile, swapping out the laminate countertops for granite maybe, and adding some new lighting in the kitchen and living room. Our house was already in really good shape when we bought it and I shudder to think how much some of the projects I've considered cost.

We're planning on putting these in some of our rooms. We already have them picked out and just need to set up a time for Lowes to come and install them. I underestimate my handiness. :hs:
