Nice Rob! For the wood paneling, just score it along the bookshelf and snap it off. You can re-texture the wall and just add a similar color quarter round moulding along the back edge of the bookshelf to hide the paneling.

I would definitely just remove it. Don't bother wasting your time texturing it.
