Default Wi-Fi crew v. losing my connection

My wireless network at home was working great...until a couple days ago. I had some family over for Christmas and they were trying to help me change it so that I could use my own password to get onto the network instead of putting in the long WEP key (or whatever it's called).

Anyway, so now I can get my wireless to work ok until I restart my computer. Then I have to connect it to my ethernet cable and set up a new wireless connection each time. It has to be something with my computer because I know that my network is working fine. I can use the wi-fi on my phone and PS3 anytime with no problems...So what can I do about my computer?

Changing the WEP password, network name, and things of the such...isnt that suppose to be something that the person who set up your network suppose to handle? So Ive read/heard. Unless your family member is the one that did it

Reset router to factory defaults and then set it back up from scratch. If that does not work, then update the firmware on the router.

Don't restart your computer.

Dot

Sounds like they changed the encryption type to something that your computer doesn't like. Why would you be entering the key every time, it should save it.

I don't have to enter the key every time I get on the network...just the first time a new device is added to my network. (i.e. when I added my phone to my wi-fi network I had to look up the wireless security key and enter it on the device).

I didn't want to tinker too much without knowing exactly what I'm doing because I was afraid I would lose the wireless entirely for everything. :hs:

Everytime I go to the Linksys page where all of my network settings can be configured, when I click on the wireless portion it just starts this endless loop.

Searching for your client device.
Please wait...
If you haven't clicked on the Wi-Fi Protected Setup button on your client device, please do so now.
It just keeps refreshing the screen after a second or two. :dunno:

I'd say it's time to have your relatives fix their mess. What did they do .
