anyone here went/going to grad school?
A masters is required in order to teach in Ohio....so I'll be getting mine eventually. Its actually easier to find a job without it b/c they can pay you less....then they help you pay for it down the road.
Got my masters with a teaching assistantship.
It's in Music Performance though. I didn't have to do what you are doing, but I did have to do both oral and written comps on top of all the recitals.

gf is finishing the ma this term, passed phd quals, so starts phd program next term, dating a dr ftw

i am looking into going back for applied ethics ma, useless, but interesting to me
While going to school was a pain in the ass and quite expensive, I have NO regrets. It was worth it in promotions, experience and $ I make after the fact far more than I ever thought possible at the time.
Thinking of working for a few years and finding a job that will pay for me and pay me to do my phd, then going to a school where you get your masters at the same time(I know there is one in portland that does that. The first two years are classes, then after its your research stuff)

Although if you drop out of the PhD program you can fallback on the Masters, so its not all that bad.

All PhD programs (at least in engineering) do this. I just finished my masters for BME this year on the PhD track. Its kinda gimmicky in what differentiates you from a masters student is the 90 credit hours extra research you put in after the first year.

I would do it right out of school, but if I had to do more classes I would probably shoot myself. Plus I want to make some money and save up a bit and find a job that will pay me to go
