The cable that goes from my cable box to my TV right now is a coax with the little needle in the middle And you have to screw it on
Optical has an input like a really small rj45 connector

phat is talking about on the dvd player and for the audio.
for audio digial coax is another way to hook up, but optical audio is better. so just stick with that.

for your cable box your just using regular coaxial cable. unless you upgrade to a HD box, or your box has other outputs as well

My cable box has regular coaxial and what looks like component. It is hooked up through the coax. I dont think I will be upgrading my box (ibhatefromrick) anytime soon. But when I do, it should be HDMI / optical sound?

Ok, since I dont even have the DVD player, I am not going to get the cable yet. I will just use my PS2 for DVDs in the mean time.

yah you dont need the optical audio cable until you buy your dvd player.

when you upgrade to a HD cable box, it will probably be a hdmi/optical setup like you said

right now with what you have all you need is the 2 hdmi and 1 stereo jack

you can upgrade your cable box to component and some audio cable, but its all standard definition anyways so don't bother imo

I suck at wire management

I have a question though

Where do I plug in my coax for the cable box?

your cable box should have component connections or those regular audio/video cable connections
