California Is First State to Ban Trans Fats
Trans-fats don't make you fat any quicker than regular animal or vegetable fat. They're bad because they raise the "bad" cholesterols in your blood and decrese the "good" ones which can lead to heart problems in the long run. But as far as calories they're no worse than anything else.
Having said that, if we cut out more trans-fats maybe heart problems would decrease. We spend too damn much in this country on treatments for heart problems. I still don't agree with the gov't telling us what to eat and what not to eat.

Banning trans-fat itself isn't that big of a deal, but this sets precedence for other things. Think about it.
Well it is removing a harmful item from our diets. I kind of see the issue both ways though, it's like letting someone slip poison into your food for years at a time that will eventually kill you. On the other hand you should know better, but not all people read labels or know what transfats do to them. It's protecting the stupid people from being stupid and dying or becoming a burden on the system. Like in Japan men can't have a waist over 32in or something like that. Or New Zealand barring fat people form taking residency in their country because they will be a burden on their health care system. Both of these two examples did happen (older posts here). Anyways yes I see the problem of the government doing this as overstepping their bounds in a way. Oh well both sides are MEH
This wouldn't be the first thing that has been banned in the country, so I don't see how this case sets precedence...it has already been set previously, when the first item was ever banned for consumption.

but still doesn't give the government the authority to chose what we can and can't eat. that is just silly.
