Mac vs PC
^ In a way, that whole OS deal really is BS. Unfortunetly, the old OS sucked big time, yet it took them this long to come up with something totally different and extremly nice. But in doing so, nothing is capable of handeling it yet. It was the only way that it could be done. It was either that or just upgrading the OS with the same format as before. Basically OSX is a completely different OS. It's like Linux to windows just about....(btw ~ OSX stole the Linux interface

$360 for a hard drive trouble shoot??? :wtf: you got raped on that one my friend....I would fight that if you still can.

Run a SCSI based PC and you'll notice how much nicer you Adobe stuff runs. My video editing and photo editing and music editing software runs like a champ but I'm also running dual processors, and most of my software for that stuff supports dualies.

I have grown up with Mac, having a mother in the publishing industry. In the time I have spent in college, I have had ONE mac G3, all of my buddies have cycled through at least 2-3 PC's, or if they have their original, it is totally gutted and there is really nothing but the chassis that is actually what they bought from the start (does that make sense?). Anyway, now I have an iBook with all the wireless crap, and it rules. I still use the old Mac when I need to use an OS 9 application, but regardless it can still kick ass and load/download stuff from the net faster than my girlfriends brand new Dell. Bam
I have a couple PCs, they're cheap.
One is an old Gateway desktop I've had since like May '98. P2 350 MHz, 256 MB RAM, whatever. It's still got win98 on it which is total sh*t. At this point it's a print server and web surfing station.
I also have an HP laptop that I just got. I was actually surprised, the software package is surprisingly non harmful especially considering the dealings I've had with HP crap in the past. Windows XP is a helluva lot more reliable than 98 ever was except when trying to run DirectX, Microsoft hasn't quite worked the bugs out of that yet. But for my needs--typing, surfing, watching DVDs on airplanes--it works great. I thought about an iBook but for the price I could either get a G3 800 MHz and 256 MB RAM, or a P4 2.0 GHz and 512 MB RAM. That combined with this dual boot nonsense with OSX made me stick with a PC.
Maybe when my desktop finally bites the dust I'll look into a Mac to replace it, by then OSX should have been out there for a couple of years and all the applications will be switched over to that so no more switching between OSs. But then I have to deal with file sharing over a network between Mac and PC, yadda yadda yadda. I don't really care enough and Windows has been getting steadily less crappy. I keep trying to convince myself to get a Mac but I can't do it.

i've been using my boyfriends ibook the last few weeks... it's pretty user friendly... he's a digitial arts/comm major so it's very useful for him.. it's also nice to watch dvd movies in his car....
he has found a website to download A TON of free mac software... if anyone is interested... PM me or email me and i could get you a link if you need something...
i don't do enough on either system to be able to make a strong arguement on which is better... but i'm starting like the mac a bit more.... just b/c the stuff he can do with it is pretty neat...

Here's what I think:
Mac - great...dare I say excellent for graphic design. The G4s are dope. Not very versatile though. Can't play CS on a Mac. :chuckles: Go to a graphic design company and you'll get laughed at for owning a pc.
PC - everybody uses PCs for 3D Animation. Macs are unheard of. More importantly, you can also run industry-standard programs like Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, ProTools, etc. on a pc. Oh, and did I mention it's Counter-Strike-friendly?

I use both.
Without getting to into it, here's what I prefer.
1) PC's for servers and gaming machines for ease of upgrading and volumes of software.
2) Mac's for laptops because of high-quality manufacturing, a great operating system (OS X only) and ease of use.
Simple.

When people say OSX is the bomb, blah blah, it's better than a PC, they seemingly overlook *nix or any other OS you see on a PC.
