did you try putting either ram module into both sockets with the other out?
obviously the laptop needs to be off, unplugged, battery out when you swap the ram and yes, boot it up to test after you place module 1 in socket 1, then same procedure, module 1 in socket 2, etc for module 2 in sockets 1 and 2.
depending on age if its mobo or cpu you might as well buy a new one.
i pulled one, booted up, no good, tried other socket, booted up, no good
same with other stick
but the computer was dead when i did this, it didnt even try to startup or recognize bios or anything each time i swapped out ram
should i try to get it booted up with each ram swap to test it or is this adequate?
the computer is beat to shit, one side of the screen hinge is broken, the charger quite working, but im dead broke and its my only hope so if it can be cheaply fixed i would love to keep it around until i can afford a new machine
ive read that xpsp3 has fucked up peoples computers but i dont know that it was as bad as yours
try reinstalling sp2 and not sp3 first if its still very much usable
it seems semi stable at the moment, but it wont hold the correct time
doesnt this have something to do with some kind of motherboard battery or something?
