I don't know of ANY single family detached in San Diego for 300k. It's just that the market is flooded with townhouses and condo conversions. You could easily pick up a condo-conversion for about 300.

You're not going to be in the greatest part of town but it should be a decent place.

It's a tough market for everyone right now. My sister is in the process of buying a 3rd house (yeah, they're real ballers), but in el centro which is way east of here. Think desert. Nice big brand new house, but even that is going for 450+.

Cost of living in so-cal =/= reasonable. Lots of rentals though. What field do you plan to work in. You have to factor higher salaries here too.
