There isn't even such a thing as a $300k house in Boulder, so my guess is you'd be screwed in socal.

You gotta go Eaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast in L.A. and deep for that price. I doubt you'd wanna live in that neighborhood.

Don't think about renting, either. Ironically got this email from a friend today. :hs:

Rent control in Los Angeles will be eliminated if PROP 98 passes.

Wealthy landlords and apartment owners are financing a deceptive
campaign to pass PROP 98 on the June 3rd ballot because it would allow
them to RAISE RENTS WITHOUT LIMITS.

In addition to getting rid of rent control, PROP 98 threatens dozens of
laws that currently protect renters. If it passes, PROP 98 could make
it possible for landlords to withhold security deposits and unfairly
evict tenants without notice.

That's why PROP 98 is OPPOSED BY:

. AARP
. League of Women Voters of California
. California Professional Firefighters
. National Wildlife Federation

Vote NO against PROP 98 to save rent control and laws protecting tenants
in Los Angeles.

Where, specifically, in Southern California?

I'm on the westside - about three miles inland from Venice/Santa Monica and you can't even get a decent condo here for 300K.

The Santa Clarita area is getting hit hard by the housing slump and you can find nice sized houses for 400K and up, but summer temps are insane up there. Farther inland (Riverside, San Bernadino) houses are more reasonable, but not really the best place to live in So Cal.

Rent prices are going up as more people try to time the bottom of the housing debacle and wait to take the plunge.

Really, it comes down to where you are going to be. Do you have a specific city in mind?

esse's and whitetrash, lol. doesnt bother me tell you the truth. i already live around it, and they dont bother me. so 400k is more? doesnt have to be L.A. jhust southern Cali. i was also thinkin Malta in the mediterranen sea. i can pick up a decent condo there for cheap.

i'd probably look to rent first. no rent control isnt that bad, but the other laws suck.
