Everybody I know of that has one of these swear by it even if it's pricey.

P.S. going to make revisions to my build.

P.S.S. OCZ Reaper memory of just memory with a Terminator II wing? :-P
I got the lower-end VX model, you think I'm still okay? As for the Reaper memory, shit I don't know anything about it. All I know is it looks cool, said 4gb and was under 100. So my ignorant ass picked it up!

No clue about the VX series but Corsair's reputation with PSUs is unrivaled. Newegg reviews seem very favorable at that:

Same thing with the OCZ Reaper memory:

Yeah, Newegg's customer reviews are often the dealbreaker for me

I've set my eyes on this mothafuka for quite some time:

GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R

I like the expandability, price, and the ability to go DDR3 when the time comes....what do you guys think?

First of all, what's your cap at? I set mine at $1K but slowly shaving the costs down by waiting on sales and hookups.

What do you plan to do with that mobo Chris?

Gigabyte is very solid when it comes to overclocking and I'd imagine that the DS3R is probably on the extreme end of that but it's very selective about RAM. I don't think the the RAM you bought will be working well (if at all) with that board. If you're in the $1.2K to $1.5K ballpark when that'll be a solid board but invest in great memory. I recommend ditching PC6400 for PC8500 instead; 2GB PC8500 generally outperforms 4GB PC6400 and it's going to be status quo memory within a year or two.

The Dominator listed in my build is around $55 after MIR so give it a look.

Cap was originally at $1.5k but it looks like I'll be going a tad under that goal. Basically I'm building this thing for handle multitasking, media encoding, mass storage.......basically I want the thing not to skip one beat at whatever the hell I throw at it for the next two years.

I'll take your memory into consideration

Are Raptors still far ahead in terms of speed compared to the conventional non-scsi these days? I'm seeing these Samsung F1 HDs with 32mb buffers. So basically........are Raptors still worth it?

don't waste your money on raptors. the slight advantage you see in bench marking wont make a lick of difference in the real world.
