Ummm ... the 4 ports would come in handy if you have 4 friends over with all battery-dry controllers. : \

no

you can always add a hub if you need more ports but how often do you really need that many ports?

The PS3 HDD speed is 5400rpm. If you do the upgrade, stick with the slower spinning drive, stay away from the 7200 temptation.

There's a significant heat increase otherwise.

That's a good question.

I believe the drive isn't taped in or anything. If you do bust your console up, be sure to place in the old HDD.

Ah, 2 more points for the 80gb -
1. Rockband requires more than 2 USB ports - tack on the cost for the hub
2. The GSX card is being developed on for PIP, gaming add-ons and other stuff...these features won't be supported on the 40gb.

Oh, good point about Rock Band. If that's a must have title, then sure ... 80gb sounds fine.

It's only $100 too, so you can nip some of that away by:
1. going tax free and ordering on Amazon.com
2. if you live near a Meijer's, wait till their 15% off rewards days ... then open a Meijer's card to stack another 10%

Yeah, rockband will be purchased along side. Only $150 at sams club.

Applied for the Sony card also. should have it any day for $100 off.

Really? I knew the 360's used laptop drives, but i thought they would only recognize the original brand and size of the HDD. Have you done this yourself?

No I haven't done it but this guy on my local wheelin forum did his and said something about it having ot do with the brand of drive or something. Not sure if it really is that easy but from what has been said it appears to be a fairly straightforward process.
