Default PS3 - 40 vs 80gb...

Ok, so I've been putting off getting the PS3 but its about time. I'm leaning towards the 80gb because it comes w/ a game, and from what I'm told has more USB ports.

What route have you guys taken? 40 or 80 and why?

80GB = emulated PS2 support

60GB = emotion chip, hardware PS2 support

40GB = no PS2 support

I went 40 because there isn't a need for the huge hard drive...at least not yet. Also the playback is fishy with the 80 and why strain the system to do something it doesn't want to. Also, it's cheaper and I wouldn't see myself playing motorstorm.

Also I have never used the USB ports for anything except charging the controller which you can also do on a computer.

Go 40.

Do you need it to be backwards compatible with ps2/ps1 games? The 40 isn't, the 80 and 60 are.

there's some cool reference info.

The boxes are very misleading. The 40 has the exact same warning as the 80 for backwards compatibility. I still have my PS2, but it would be nice to use the PS3 for both and move the PS2 to another room.

The emotion chip allowed for PS2 upscaling, but ... I wouldn't play PS2 games on a PS3. No matter what you do or say, the best PS2 playback was on the PS2 console itself. Don't stress the PS3 hardware for something last gen.

Isn't the 40 BC with PS1 games? I haven't tried it yet...but who knows.

Was it Jae or Drew that told me...if you have a PS2 already don't bother with the BC since you have a system that will do it for you. Also Sony is dropping BC support on their systems because they know it's a bad situation as well.

Aside from the 40 gig with no backwards compat explain what the difference between the 60 and 80.

What I mean is what is the difference between emulated playback and the emotion chip?

I guess the emulated playback only supports about 80% of games vs closer to 100% of the chip
