it depends on how much music/videos you want to store. I am happy with my 8gb nano.

I have several iPods ...
30GB - white - music only
80GB - piano black - video, photo, music
2GB - silver - nano - photo, music
16GB - touch

The Touch is freaking awesome. It has a very usable interface and the WiFi + Safari or YouTube works flawlessly. If I have to check email, I don't even bother with my PC anymore. The Touch can connect to the internet 5 seconds after I turn it on.

I'm buying an ipod nano for my wife for her birthday but I can't decide between the 4 GB and 8 GB. If I get the 4 gig then at least I have an excuse if I don't get the right color, since it only comes in silver.

is she familiar with MP3's?

does she have a collection of them already or will she iTune them all?

how about videos?

If she's "in-the-know" and downloads everything though torrents, she'll need the space. If she'll rely on iTunes ... to fill 4gb off of iTunes would cost a fortune. I don't see anyone doing that, so the smaller will be fine.

She doesn't really know jack about downloading music and such. She usually just asks me to download such and such song or she'll download something if I show her how to use the program. The rest she'll probably just rip from her CD's.

I doubt she'll even want videos or anything else on there. She really just wants one for when she goes jogging or working out. The only problem I can foresee is that I usually encode the files at a higher bitrate (such as 160 or 192 kb/s) but hopefully this won't increase the file sizes too much.

Sounds like the 4 GB is my best bet. :hs: It's on sale on bestbuy.com too.

Do they still make the Nike+ iPod kits? Those are great for her needs.
