what size monitor does he have? if it's 19-20" he wont need 512mb of ram. 256mb is enough.

Personally I'd go with the AMD X2 5000 Black Edition, it's not multiplier locked so it'll easily reach the same speeds as the other one, for cheaper and it's got a lower TDP. 125W vs 65W. Granted the overclocking will up that 65W, but not all the way to 125W.

The motherboard has the 570 SLI chipset, I have the same in my Abit KN9 SLI, it does a great job. Only problem is they seem to be phasing it out as the new AMD 790 chipsets become more popular. So what's my point? You used to have a wider selection for the 570 SLI, I got my KN9 on ebay for about $60 shipped. I doubt that ASUS one will dissappoint, but you could get similar for less if you were willing to check out the ebay.
So you'll save some bucks by going with the CPU I mentioned, you already dropped the ram to 2GB... eh, I'd go with 4gb but then I'd use a 64bit Ubuntu and not XP. You probably already have a "copy" of XP, no need to buy another. ;-) Save your money.
Vid card.... if you are going to be doing games, 8800. Anything in the 8800 range will almost always out perform the 8600 range. Nvidia is going to be releasing the 9xxx series in about a month or less, so the 8600/8800's will be dropping in price, soon. It's your choice.
PSU, I'd upgrade. Just a tad. This one has 4 12Volt rails, is 80 PLUS certified, and made by Seasonic. Seasonic? Yea, they make PSU's for other guys too, like Antec. Not that antec is bad, no I'm running them in 3 pc's right now. But if given the choice here, I'd lean towards the Seasonic. It's only $20 more.

CD/DVD. I'd go with the following. It's got, um, "patches" avaliable that help with the extraction of video from DVD's. It's a great drive, I have one and it's stellar. It's very close to the one you selected, but I know it better and know it has people working on firmware hacks for it. I'd figure you know it, but you don't NEED 2 drives to copy something. Any ripping/burning software these days is smart enough to eject the disc and ask for a blank when it's done ripping. But whatever suits your fancy.

If you must have Lightscribe for some silly reason, then this one.
