Default welder: would this work?

I just got the eastwood catalog and saw this.

http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT

I know this would be more suitable for smaller/body/exhaust type stuff, but it still seems like a really good deal seeing as its a reputable company, comes with a helmet, cart, instructions, etc etc.

I am a noobie welder, but I would mostly be using this for the truck (bumpers, sliders, suspension, etc..) It says up to 3/16", so that should be sufficient.

They've also got this, which would no doubt be a better bet, but its more than I want to spend. :hs:

actually, on second thought, I don't think 3/16 would be deep enough for most of my stuff

It's pretty much my craftsman only blue. If it's the same thing, then yeah it's a decent hobby welder.

Didn't see the 3/16" part.

Hobby at best.

Get a 220 and be done with it, 110s just suck in general.

Welding is great. i don't know what the video would be like, but it's not hard. You just need a steady hand, or in my case a good prop, and some practice. You have to lay it down smooth and you have to watch for penetration (yes I said it). That first one should be alright unless you are welding up frame rails.

flux core wire is nice but you get lots and lots of splatter

they guy who welded up my spring hangers did a pretty good job with 110 power :dunno: But he also charged me $95, hence me looking for a welder h:

I originally wanted 110 because I thought I'd be using it at home, but I think the welder would end up living at my buddy's shop, so 220 is fine too... I just don't want to spend $600

Watch your duty cycle too. If you plan on using it a lot you'll want to buy one with a higher duty cycle.

I won't be using it a ton, and I'm not adverse to taking beer breaks during a job.

Miller 180 is what I have and I think it's perfect.
I just build roll cages and chassis' with it as a hobbyist but it keeps up with me just fine.
