Granted I haven't seen it yet but I have talked extensivley with several who have and who have also seen both the films made on it before as well as read the book, they all told me it was good but save the money if you know the book.

It's novel and yes you can compare them because there are a ton of very important details left out of the movie that are important to understanding what is happening and why. Not showing the flashbacks of what happened in his own house, the neighbor not being included, the women taunting him at night, his nightly alcohol induced slumber..... and the list goes on.

and yes, like i mentioned in a previous post, the film has several holes in the plot vs. the books. typical "hollywood" scenes were used in place of further developing the plot and storyline IMO.
edit:
a prequel would seem to work well for this movie.

yeah disapointing IMO. Never read the book but the movie is bored line suck... I didnt even get the sence of lonelyness, he never repeats anything... you dont see him doing a routine whcih would be a way of making the viewer feel like he is going crazy. There is no epiphany,conclusion nor shock effect all of which is important when doing 1 more of this kind of cliché movies. I figured the whole fucking thing out before the end...
I really did not enjoy this movie... the acting was great, the effects were cool, the story blew i was not taken in the movie.
