I however do not feel that either will die out.
Funny thing is that there are people that think like that. Totally oblivious to what they're buying. :chuckles:

for me, and many others, again, given the sales figures.

let me ask you this, in the past couple of weeks, what console have you used the most? the 360 or the ps3? and why? because a game, or HD movies?

their problem is more than that at this point. i'd say right now their lack of good titles is hurting them at least as much, if not more so than the image of being overpriced.

and the $50 difference is only after recent price drops.

i'm really not arguing for one or the other. i own neither. i'm just saying that it's still too close to tell at this point, and i definitely see no definitive proof that the ps3 is doing enough to win the hd format war.

(360 Prem $350, 40GB PS3 $400)
(360 Elite $450, 60GB PS3 $500)

To go back a little bit allow me to interject this thought.

I can go down to EBX or whatever game store is available and purchase a refurb XBX360 for about $250-350 which depends on which model I want. The PS3 on the other hand does not leave this option open which may have an effect on the overall promotability (is that even a word?) of the format.

Personally I see the HD making headway easier than the Blu-Ray format when talking consoles because of the fact that suddenly an HD addon isn't so out of line in cost. Add to that the fact that you can now pick up the XBX HD player for less than $150 and also that the XBX integrates easily into your computers files for a full entertainment integration solution with one purchase regardless of which model you go with.

Doesn't Blu-ray = no porn? If so, I'd say this gives HD-DVD a HUGE advantage.

For the average person that doesn't know much about technology, if they hear "Blu-ray", they will be like WTF is that?

HD DVD is much easier to recognize. The average person will be "I already know what a DVD is, so this must be better".

This more than anything else will stop them in their tracks with the PS3 along with their elimination an nonchalance about the problematic backwards compatibility of the system.

Game titles are what I wait for before investing in a game system (ok I throw away money on one but whatever) and a year later I see nothing on the PS3 or even the Wii for that matter that compels me to even remotely want these systems.

First and foremost every gaming system has to have games to play and to keep the purchasers happy with their decision.

Sony has promised an online gaming community like no other in it's experience...it has yet to deliver on that promise and it seems as though it is in no rush to even try to deliver the experience they talked so highly about.

:werdr:

I mean for those who don't really have a media center PC setup, a xbox 360 is the next best thing.

I use my PS3 to watch movies with, due to the lack of good exclusive games. Other then that, like my Wii, it collects dust. But when i do watch movies on it, i don't watch Blu-ray movies. When i go to the store and i'm looking for a new DVD to buy, I look at the prices. I then get the regular DVD and watch it upconverted. In reality i would've been better off just getting a upconverting DVD player, but I found a good deal on the PS3 so that's why i got it. I have several blu-ray movies that i haven't even watched yet and are still in the wrapper. Only because i don't see what's so great about the picture (remember, i'm playing at 1080i on a LCD tv through HDMI).

I don't think there will ever be a clear winner as long as players are expensive, movies are expensive. The clear winner will be...whoever can make a burner of those movies cheaply and efficiently. If i could burn HD-DVD's for as cheap as i can burn regular DVD's (not saying i do), then eff blu-ray, give me a HD-DVD player.

Check again kiddo

Sony has a longstanding no vote on porn which is a major reason why Beta failed even though it was a superior format to VHS.

This has been covered numerous times.
