Han decision making crew v. Grand Oasis
Ok, so my girl and her family and friends are taking a vacation to Mexico this year and of course i'm invited. They want to stay in Cancun and they're booking everything through a travel agent. I decided to take a look at the hotel and see what it was like, (also wanted to see if i could beat the travel agents price). The users reviews i saw gave it a 3/5. Here's just 2 of the negative reviews that i read that had me like :uhhok:
The reason i see it got a 3/5 is cus most people say it was ok, but would never go back there again. Now i asked the gf if who ever planned this trip looked at the reviews for the website. She proceeded to tell me no, they're simply going off the reviews that the travel agent told them. This makes me a little nervous and makes me not want to stay here. What would you guys do if you were in this situation.

Got there, had to wait for room to be ready. Got the room and A/C not working. After 3rd time to try and fix the A/C, I went to front desk to get the room changed. I got a key for my new room and found that I was walking into SOMEONE ELSES' ROOM! I went back to front desk and told female attendant about the error, everyone else was inside the office so I waited for a few minutes. After the lady came out of the office, everyone else stayed inside the office including the attendant that made the error, I remarked that no one care about the mistake because noone was coming over to talk to me about my room. He apologized and gave me a different room on the 6th floor, A/C was good so we took it. AT ABOUT 11 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT, WHILE MY WIFE AND I WERE SLEEPING, SOMEONE WALKS IN ON US, TURNS ON THE LIGHT AND LEAVES. WE COULD NOT SLEEP THE REST OF THE NIGHT. I called the front desk right away and noone there to pick up the phone. The next day they were very apologetic but hard was already done. Last year we were very happy with this hotel and even gave it a great review, but this time around, I can't do the same. Be careful of all the algea that floating inside the pool.

Tried to check in around 1pm, told we didnt have a reservation. By 5:30 we had been told 3 times we didnt have a reservation, no confirmation had come to the hotel, via fax, 5 times and after 6-8 calls to Travelocity. Wouldnt even sell us a water or a beer while we waited. Watched at 3pm while numerous guests were turned away or changed into other rooms, had to stay at the Oasis American on my own money. Had a friend in the US spend a whole day on the phone for us. Found out the Grand Oasis overbooked and sold our room. Denied it till the end. Had to pay for 2 night, all my meals and drinks for 7 days when I was pre-paid for the whole thing. Had to call home and borrow twelve hundred bucks to eat and drink. Wont be back to Oasis!
That's why you go to some backwater place without big tourist palaces ...everything is cheap and a whole lot more fun.

honestly both of those reviews are things that you could find at any hotel. when i worked at the resort back home, both have happened. nature of the beast when you start talking large amounts of rooms and high travel times. just be sure to bring copies of your confirmation receipts and usually it all works out.
Homey, if youve never been to Mex, keep an open mind. Its no paradise, no matter what part youve been too. However, its fun. I plan on taking a week trip to Cabo at the beginning of April.
That's exactly what i was thinking :nervous:
I guess i should go in thinking the glass is half full :hs:
