I Have The Motorcycle! :D
rear brake ONLY in slow speed braking, or mildly in turning situations where a lighter steering ability is needed (light rear braking will transfer weight to rear causing front to be lighter & more responsive)
otherwise, the rear brake should be avoided like the plague...too easy to lock rear wheel & cause loss of control from skidding
:nervous:

no....
did you pay attention in class?
you're suppose to use both brakes all the time.. because in an emergency situation, your instinct is to do what you usually do, which would be only front brakes in your case and you'll just endo/superman off your bike
locking up rear is not bad. you're suppose to keep it locked since you still have control and ride the locked rear to a stop.
I just went out and rode it for about an hour. I put about 20 miles on it. I don't live in a neighborhood or anything so it was a little intimidating riding it around Baltimore City. I tried to avoid main roads a bit but a lot of the time I didn't have an option.
OMFG was it a blast tho
I've never felt anything like it. You don't get the full experience riding around a parking lot in class. I know it's only a 250 but for a first time rider it was fast as fuck. It's pretty close performance wise to my STi but when you are sitting on 2 wheels out in the open it is so much more exhilarating
I can't wait to go riding again tomorrow

Ive been that way all summer, still contemplating selling it.. useless to have a car payment on a car that only gets driven to make sure it doesn't die. Maybe I'll sell it for an old cavalier or something for the winter.. or an older dodge 4x4 might be nifty.
And for the brake "argument".. here is my experience. I was riding down the highway at about 55 in a 45. On the right there is always traffic backed up because of a major bridge, and there was no traffic in the left lane. So I continued passing in the left lane towards the intersection. The light was green, so I didn't slow down. Out of absolutely no where, an ambulance comes bursting into the intersection, and I didn't see it until it was almost right in my path because I could not see around the traffic on the right. Anyway, I locked up the rear brake and use my front brake to aid in stopping. My front brake never locked up because I used it ONLY as an aid, not as the brute stopping force. My bike stayed straight and I skidded to a stop (as did the ambulance). We were about 6 feet away from each other when it was all said and done.
So, thats my take.
