Default Go buy this wine.

Cuvaison 2005 Pinot Noir Carneros.

Check your local wine store and if they don't have it you can get it direct from the winery for $30/bottle.

Oh yeah.

I had this tonight with a nice fresh caprese salad, plus some prosciutto & mushroom ravioli in vodka sauce.

Damn tasty wine. Complex flavor without making you all sleepy like a cabernet. But I wouldn't drink it with steak, not heavy enough.

Anyway I am not qualified to describe its fruity/oaky/whatever-other-wine-snob-adjective qualities because I have not yet developed the proper vocabulary. But it's fucking good.

if you like that wine I suggest

Joseph Swan Pinot Noir 2004

about 22-25 bucks a bottle. It is my absolute favorite of all pinots I have tried. It can be served with fish such as Salmon, but the great thing is the almost Cab finish which gives it the ability to be used with a good steak.

If you lived near the Finger Lakes may I suggest to you this:
Leidenfrost's Pinot or their Baco Beaujolais

If I am gonna drink I red I usually stick to EXTREMELY heavy Cabs. The Joseph Swan was a perfect Pinot for me as it was an amazing palette, but with a subtle Cab finish. My mother prefers pinot and it was her birthday so her choice. Their friend Michelle is one of the premier somalie's (sp?) in michigan and recomended it. If I am not drinking cab its Cake Bread Cellars Sauvignon Blanc.

I'll have to look into that Leidenfrost's Pinot...wonder if I can get it in Michigan.

Oh also I might as well point out, damn I love my Riedel stemware. It's only their ~$10 per glass "cheap" stuff but just having proper wine glasses is so worth it. I had been drinking wine out of crappy wine glasses that I have no recollection where they even came from, each one was slightly different....and none were good. The Riedel stuff, the base is more than twice as heavy as my old crappy stuff, and they're all perfectly formed. Nothing uber special, just proper. And that makes them wonderful.

Oh and Lee if you have not yet had it one of my fav cabernets is Simi Winery 2003 Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

P.P.S. it's sommelier.

My dad likes the Simi Sauvignon Blanc which I think tastes like butt.

I will check out the Landslide Cab though. Have you ever tried the 2002 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon. It is around 45 bucks a bottle so I don't get it very often but it is a favorite of mine. I actually prefer the Shafer "Hillside Select" but I have only had it a couple of times as it is $200 a bottle h:

I TOTALLY agree that drinking from the perfect glass does it. It is the only way that I drink my scotch now is out of my single malt glass. Best investment for a scotch drinker :yumyum:
