It's safer at higher speeds. You get over your fear pretty quick, and if you don't...sell it.

I just got one recently and I just love riding to work stuff, its kinda funny how it instantly puts you in with a whole different crowd, all the dudes wave at me when they go past. I'm probably gonna get my ass kicked when I don't wave cause i'm trying to get the damn thing into gear...

Call me a pessimist... but there is one overwhelming negative that wipes out all the benefits IMO.

No matter where or when you ride, you are surrounded by ignorant clods who can kill you with a mistake that would otherwise only be a fender bender.

Uhh you do know that the clutch isn't needed once you are rolling in 1st gear right?

Only time I use a clutch on a bike is start off in first or really aggressive corners, aside from that it is just wasting the clutch.

It's simple really. You are all out there taking the same life threatening risk as each other. Makes no difference what you ride or where you are at least giving a head nod as acknowledgement is a polite thing to do.

Even as a cager I give a a wave to bikes as acknowledgement of the risk they are taking every day by riding. Not too often I get a wave back but it doesn't matter to me at all.
