Motorcyclists
Depending on where you live, how dumb the drivers are around you, and practically, a bike can be the best thing you've ever gotten.
No regrets here. I ride to ride, not the cool shit. Well, maybe sometimes.

Is it a cool experience? I'd say so. There's a feeling you get that can't be duplicated in any 4 wheeled vehicle.
I agree with everything Nightshade has said but if you're looking for savings, I'd stay away from the modern supersport 600s that are so "cool" right now. Most use premium fuel, "only" get gas mileage in the low 30's, eat through sticky rubber like crazy, and have higher insurance costs. Choose accordingly.
There are ways to minimize risk when riding. Also, if the street scares you, there's always the track.
Cool factor
I always rode them because it was cheap transportation all around. As I began making longer road trips a bigger more substantial bike was needed. I found that the 600s were perfect all around bikes 90% of the time.
Fuck cool either you enjoy riding and want the savings or you don't.

I can't agree with you there.
While the outcome (death) is identical, the levels of risk are not.
When Suzie Soccer Mom blows through the red in her Escalade long after the light has changed, there aren't many precautions you can take on a bike. At least with a car you have crumple zones that aren't part of your anatomy.
Don't get me wrong... if people could actually drive down here, I'd definitely ride. But with the way it is now, the risk vs reward just doesn't pan out.
